On 9 August 1945, the B-29 Bockscar was ordered to drop its second atomic bomb on Kokura, Japan. Cloud cover and drifting smoke obscured the target that morning. After three failed passes, the crew diverted to their secondary target: Nagasaki. A cloud decided which city lived.
